A £12.7bn parcel has been delivered to the UK from a pharmacist in London’s West End, which means that an online GP will be able to supply Viagra on demand and it costs £8.99
The move comes after pharmacist David Sheehy, from Lloyds Pharmacy, was told that the service would only be available over the counter at pharmacies and that the GP could order the tablets for £9.99.
He said: ‘You can see the GP can’t supply the pills in the pharmacy.
‘They have to go out and get it.
‘The GP will be able to order the pills and you can get them back on the same day.
‘They are a step up from that.
‘There is a pharmacy option.
‘It’s a big step to get the services into the community.’
The NHS, which provides treatment for impotence and can give a private prescription to a GP, will also be able to pick up the tablets after the patient has had their prescription filled.
Sheehy told the Guardian: ‘Our service is not a private service so we will only be available to our clients on prescription.
‘We are also able to pick up the tablets from the pharmacy which is a step up from that.’
He said: ‘If you have a prescription for Viagra or another treatment for impotence, it is important that they have the prescription.
‘You can find it in our website and on our pharmacy websites.
‘We also have a pharmacy option to order Viagra if you have an existing prescription.
‘We have a pharmacy option to buy the tablets from your GP.
‘It is important that you ask them to fill the tablets and they will be delivered on or before the end of the day.
LONDON, July 11, 2025 / -- The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved sildenafil (Viagra), the first drug to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), in the UK, the agency said today.
The approval was in response to a recent clinical trial involving two men who had taken the drug for at least four months, the FDA said in a statement.
The trial compared the safety and effectiveness of sildenafil (Viagra) or similar products with sildenafil (Stendra) taken before sexual activity.
"Sildenafil (Viagra) is currently the only drug approved for the treatment of ED and is the most effective in the clinical trials," the FDA said.
The FDA advised the public that the drug's use for sexual function should only be under medical supervision and should not be considered excessive.
About 6,500 people in the UK had been prescribed sildenafil (Viagra), an FDA-approved drug for erectile dysfunction, from June 2016 to December 2017.
The drug was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adults over 50. The drug was sold over the counter in the UK under the brand name Revatio.
The drug is approved for the treatment of male sexual function problems (impotence and erectile dysfunction) in men and pulmonary arterial hypertension in women.
Sildenafil, or Viagra, was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the UK in 1998.
The drug is not currently licensed for use in the UK in any other country.
About 40% of men who have erectile dysfunction are also diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the blood vessels that supply the lungs, the heart, the brain and the kidneys).
Sildenafil is approved for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension in adults and women.
The approval is expected to be in response to a UK study which has linked the drug to an increased risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
The study, which involved 11,821 men, was carried out between June and December 2017.
The results have been presented yesterday at the ASM-UK Scientific Sessions, held in London on July 19 and 30.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a condition where blood vessels that supply the lungs expand and restrict blood supply to the lungs, resulting in high blood pressure in the lungs.In the study, people who took sildenafil or similar products for at least four months and had a history of severe adverse events were followed for at least 10 years.
The study found that compared with sildenafil users, the drugs were not associated with an increased risk of heart attack, stroke or chest pain.
The safety of the drug was also confirmed by the findings of a recent trial which involved 22,000 men, with a mean age of 59, who had taken sildenafil or similar products for at least four months.
A similar study which involved 11,000 men was carried out between June and December 2017.
The study found that compared with patients who took sildenafil or similar products for at least three months, those who took sildenafil had a statistically significant lower risk of developing heart attack, stroke or coronary heart disease.
However, those who took sildenafil had an increased risk of developing pulmonary arterial hypertension, which was also found in the previous study.
In the UK, the maximum recommended dose of sildenafil is 50 milligrams per day. It is not available in all countries, and is only available by prescription in the UK.
